Giving Indigenous peoples a voice as their territories evolve
Through a series of conversations conducted by researchers with members of the Sami communities in Sweden and Norway, this book explores their visions of the future in a context marked by multiple challenges. The book addresses issues such as the particularly rapid climate change in the Arctic, which is profoundly altering the local socio-ecosystem, the predatory extraction of natural resources, which is putting increasing pressure on these territories, and the struggles for recognition of indigenous rights and the importance of their voices in shaping the future. Faced with these major challenges that are transforming their territory and their way of life, the book highlights the Sami people’s capacity for action, the opportunities they identify, and the strategies they are developing to build their future.
A commitment to open science
By publishing this work under an open license in its HAL-AgroParisTech open archive, the institution reaffirms its strategic commitment to the free dissemination of scientific knowledge. This approach allows the work to reach a wide audience: researchers and academics, policy makers, and the general public can thus freely access these valuable reflections and testimonials. Futures in Sápmi is an important resource for anyone interested in indigenous issues, environmental justice, and new modes of territorial governance in the face of 21st-century challenges.
