Ecological assessment of the farm in 2006

The ecological assessment of the farm was made in year 2006, considered as “year 0” of the Grignon Energie Positive program :

-  Firstly we made an ecological assessment of the Grignon Farm following the methodology of the « bilan Planète », which enabled us to estimate the greenhouse gas emissions and the energy consumption of the farm
-  We then looked for information on good practices
-  We eventually selected good practices which could be implemented at Grignon.

You will find in this section:

> What kind of energy diagnosis ?

How should the energy expenditures due to the farm productions be taken into account, how should the global energy efficiency be evaluated and how can it be optimized ?

> Selected good practices for the 2007-2008 campaign

Given our constraints we have selected only a few practices to reduce energy consumption and/or greenhouse gases emissions. Indeed, some practices require further studies (the setting up of a methanization unit for example) or are not feasible in our system (pedoclimatic context, material (...)

> Definition of the study system

Before changing anything on the farm, it was necessary to understand in details the way the farm works precisely, in order to determine the perimeter of our work and the relationships of the system to its environment.

> Diagnostic tools used

An important prerequisite for the environmental diagnosis of the farm is the meticulous choice of appropriate tools enabling the assessment of the system’s performances, in terms of energy consumption and greenhouse gaz emissions. This choice of diagnostic tools was accompanied in Grignon by the creation of complementary and original (...)
