About AgroParisTech

Paris Institute of technology for life, food and environmental sciences

AgroParisTech is a higher education teaching and research institute (’Grande Ecole’) in the fields of agronomic sciences and techniques, the agri-food sector, forestry, management of spaces and natural resources and land management and development.

A young institute with over 180 years tradition

Founded on January 1st 2007 by the three following Graduate Institutes in Science and Engineering:

INA P-G - Institut National Agronomique Paris-Grignon
ENGREF – Ecole Nationale du Génie Rural, des Eaux et des Forêts
ENSIA – Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Industries Agricoles et Alimentaires

Multiple Campuses of AgroParisTech:

AgroParisTech has forged multiple alliances with other corresponding institutions: The institute is a founder member of: ParisTech which brings together 10 graduate engineering schools, and one graduate management school in science and technology and prioritises collective activities in particular on an international level and with industry, and Agreenium which brings together the major actors in research and higher education in life sciences and technology and the environment.
As multi-centre institute, AgroParisTech is strongly implicated in different territorial organisations which are linked to its themes (Communities of universities and institutions) which have resulted from the French 2013 law on higher education and research, especially that of the Université Paris-Saclay. AgroParisTech is a founding member of the Université Paris-Saclay, together with 17 prestigious HEI and research institutes.

Master of Engineering = "Diplôme d’Ingénieur”:

  • 3 years
  • Programme taught in French
  • Very selective admission process
  • 4 different study tracks
  • Special admission process for international students (start in the 2nd year) called "Concours DE"
  • Recognised diploma as Master Degree in USA from AACRAO (American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers)
  • Option of Double Degrees within University of Liège - Gembloux / Belgium, University of São Paulo, ESALQ / Brazil and National Agronomy Institute of Tunis (INAT) / Tunesia

Master of Science (MSc)

  • 2 years
  • Programme taught in French and English in most fields of Life Science and Technology

    • Water, Soil and Waste Management and Treatment : GTESD (in French)
    • Renewable energy, science and technology : REST (in English)
    • 3 A (Science & Technology in Agriculture, Food and the Environment) - 2 study stracks (in French) : Plant Health and Environmental Management of Ecosystems and Tropical Forests (GEEFT)

    • European Master in Food studies
    • Climate, land use, ecosystem services – CLUES
    • Systems and synthetic biology - SSB
    • Decision Support and Business Intelligence - DSBI
    • Forests and their environment - FEN which is part of the Erasmus Mundus Master European Forestry

The French “Grandes Ecoles”

The higher education system in France includes universities and other institutions called the “Grandes Ecoles”. The “Grandes Ecoles” are the best rated pathways for higher education in Engineering and Management. The vast majority of the chief executives in major French companies and of top managers in the French Administration are graduates from the “Grandes Ecoles”.

The features are:

  • Graduate school deliver degrees starting at master level
  • A very selective admission process through which students are either admitted by a nationwide entrance exam or by the virtue of excellent academic records
  • 5 years (Master’s degrees) to 8 years (PhD and post-Master’s degrees) of higher education
  • The degree course at the “Grandes Ecoles” includes compulsory internships in laboratories and companies, in France or abroad
  • The prestige of the “Grandes Ecoles” and its contacts with major enterprises provide an easy access to the job market
